Roppongi/Akasaka Area: Just Keeps Getting More Exciting

Roppongi/Akasaka Area: Just Keeps Getting More Exciting

Property listings

Roppongi area sits just about at the midpoint between the sprawling terminal stations of Tokyo, Shinjuku and Shinagawa. The Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line, Oedo Line, Namboku Line and other lines serve the area, making it especially attractive in terms of getting around the city.

Roppongi has a glitzy image, but in reality it’s full of spots where you can forget the hubbub of downtown Japan, including art galleries and verdant parks. Worthy representatives include Hinokicho Park, former garden of the Azabu villa of the Mori clan, rulers of the Hagi domain (now in Yamaguchi Prefecture); the Mori Art Museum, within Roppongi Hills; and the National Art Center, which boasts one of Japan’s largest exhibition spaces.

But what we’d really like to direct your attention to now is the redevelopment now under way around Roppongi Hills and Roppongi Intersection. This renewal project, already being called “Roppongi Hills 2.0,” envisions creation of a new transportation node, cultural and MICE facilities, accommodations and more. This thrilling new urban nerve center is slated for completion around 2030. Nearby, in Akasaka area, two landmark buildings are penciled in for ribbon-cutting in 2028. These high-rise complexes will connect directly to Akasaka Station and incorporate a theater, meeting hall and hotel accommodations, among other facilities. Area safety will not be neglected: a temporary standby base and disaster preparedness warehouse are also in the works.
