Shibaura Area: City of Water and Green Spaces

■ Shibaura area property listings

Shibaura area was formerly a sprawling district of factories and warehouses. Today Shibaura is abuzz with redevelopment, lined with freshly minted condominiums and other buildings barely a few years old. As a result, the district now sports a gleaming urban profile.

Nearby JR Tamachi Station is a stop on the Yamanote Line and Keihin Tohoku Line, providing access to central Tokyo, Yokohama and Omiya without a change of trains.

Exit the ticket gates at Tamachi Station and to your west you’ll find Mita with its shopping street, to the east Shibaura and its soaring condominium towers and office buildings. The landmark here is Shibaura Island, a complex of four condominium towers surrounded on four sides by canals. Everything needed for living is available on the island including clinics and a variety of other facilities. A 24-hour supermarket makes grocery shopping an option no matter how late you get home.

At Platanus Park, a grassy expanse of 2,500 sqm, events are often held on weekends. Other parks brighten the quarter as well, including Shibaura Central Park, the area’s most spacious park and one that includes a dog run.
