Are You Familiar with the Tokyo Bay Grand Fireworks Festival Returning on October 24, 2026?

The Tokyo Bay Grand Fireworks Festival, a beloved summer tradition of Tokyo's waterfront area, was held annually from 1988 until 2015. The event was suspended following its 2015 edition to make way for the construction of the Athletes' Village for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Many residents and visitors lamented the loss of this iconic event and continued to call for its return. As a result, the festival is set to make its long-awaited comeback this year, approximately 11 years after its suspension, jointly hosted by Chuo City, which had traditionally organized the event, and Minato City.

The fireworks will be launched from barges off Harumi Pier in Tokyo Bay. Approximately 12,000 fireworks, including some of the largest shells displayed in Tokyo, will illuminate the night sky over central Tokyo with a spectacular variety of colors, patterns, and effects.
